Social media agency in Santa Monica
We shoot in Santa Monica most weeks. Fitness and wellness, hospitality, boutique retail, and the tech offices between Colorado and the beach.
What Santa Monica businesses are actually competing with
Santa Monica has an unusual problem: your customer's feed is already full of extremely good content, because a meaningful share of the people living here work in media, tech, or wellness marketing. The bar for what reads as competent is set higher than the businesses two miles inland ever have to clear.
The upside is a customer who genuinely discovers local businesses on Instagram and then walks there. Santa Monica is dense, walkable, and repeat-visit driven, so an account that stays visible converts into actual foot traffic at a rate you can feel.
Who we shoot here
- Fitness and wellness Studios, pilates and yoga, recovery and cold plunge, physical therapy. Class-based businesses live and die on a full schedule, and social is how a Tuesday 6am fills.
- Med spas and skin The Wilshire and Montana corridors skew toward skin health, longevity, and preventative aesthetics rather than dramatic results, which changes the content entirely.
- Restaurants and cafes Main Street, Ocean Park, Montana Avenue, and the Third Street Promenade. Heavy brunch and coastal dining, where patio light does most of the work before 11am.
- Boutique retail Montana Avenue in particular, where the product is the content and a single well-shot piece moves inventory.
- Professional and tech The offices between Colorado and the water. Recruiting and founder-brand content more than customer acquisition.
The marine layer decides the schedule
This is a genuine production constraint on the Westside and we plan around it rather than pretending it does not exist. The marine layer often sits until mid to late morning, especially in May and June, which flattens exterior light and kills patio and beach-adjacent footage. Interiors are unaffected.
So Santa Monica shooting days usually run interiors first, then exteriors once the layer clears, with anything genuinely golden pushed to the last hour before sunset. For a restaurant that means the room and the plating in the morning and the patio at the end of the day, in one visit.
Permits, and why we mostly shoot inside
Santa Monica has its own film permit office and public-space rules that are stricter than the county baseline, including on the Promenade, the pier, and the beach. For the kind of content we make, this is rarely a problem, because we shoot inside your business or on your own property, which does not need a permit.
If a concept genuinely needs a public location, we tell you what the permit costs and how long it takes before we plan around it, rather than turning up and improvising.
Drone coverage on the coast
Coastal aerials are the best argument for the Aerial package anywhere in the county, and Santa Monica is also one of the more constrained places to fly. Santa Monica Municipal Airport generates controlled airspace across much of the city, the beach and pier carry their own restrictions, and parts of the coast sit under additional rules. We check the airspace class for your exact address and clear the flight before the shoot date, and we say plainly when a location cannot be flown.
Which package fits
Most Santa Monica clients run Native, our iPhone package. The businesses here need volume, the natural light is genuinely good, and the audience responds better to content that looks like a person made it than to content that looks like an agency did. Studio earns its place for med spas, for interiors that are darker than they look, and for the one or two pieces a year that have to carry a rebrand.
Frequently asked questions
Do you charge extra to shoot in Santa Monica?
No. Santa Monica is inside our standard service area, well within the hour-from-Downtown radius, and there is no travel surcharge. We are on the Westside most weeks.
What time of day do you shoot in Santa Monica?
It depends on the marine layer. Overcast mornings are common, especially in May and June, so we usually shoot interiors first and move outside once it clears, with anything that needs golden light pushed to the last hour before sunset. One visit covers both.
Do we need a film permit?
Not for the work we normally do. Shooting inside your business or on your own property needs no permit. Santa Monica does have its own permit office and stricter rules than the county for public spaces including the Promenade, the pier, and the beach, so if a concept needs one of those we price and schedule the permit before planning around it.
Can you fly a drone in Santa Monica?
Sometimes, and we check before promising. Santa Monica Municipal Airport generates controlled airspace across much of the city, and the beach and pier carry their own restrictions. We check the airspace class for your exact address and request authorization ahead of the shoot date, and we tell you honestly when a location cannot be flown.
What kinds of Santa Monica businesses do you work with?
Fitness and wellness studios, med spas and skin clinics, restaurants and cafes on Main Street, Ocean Park, Montana Avenue, and the Promenade, boutique retail, and the professional and tech offices between Colorado and the water.
Which package do Santa Monica businesses usually choose?
Native, the iPhone package, for most of them. The businesses here need volume, the light is genuinely good, and the audience responds to content that looks like a person made it. Studio is the right call for med spas, for darker interiors, and for the pieces that have to carry a rebrand.
